Drops of water …

October 7, 2011

The protest song says, “drops of water turn a mill, singly none, singly none.” I left the office today so that I could be a “drop of water” at the Occupy Portland rally. Taking to the street periodically is a good reminder and exercise of the principles that led to our country’s founding.

This demonstration had a lot in common with others that I’ve participated in over the last 40 years. First, a lot of people were needed to “turn the mill”. Second, while we seemed to agree in general (the country’s priorities are out of whack), there was a lot of conflict over specifics. Still, it didn’t keep us from joining together and giving the system a shake. Let’s see what happens next.
